Calling all South Island competitors for this co-show in Southland!


ApHANZ is proud to be part of the Wallace Western Riding Club's January show - a fantastic three day event offering something for everyone. This is an excellent opportunity for our South Island members to compete and earn double ApHANZ points in all our classes.

Dates & Disciplines:

This show is open to all breeds and offers classes across multiple disciplines.


  • Friday, 16th January 2026 - WWRC Ranch Show (9:00 AM start)

  • Saturday, 17th January 2026 - Western Performance & Halter (9:00 AM start)

  • Sunday, 18th January 2026 - English, ApHANZ Points Only (9:00 AM start)

Appaloosa Classes

SATURDAY - APPALOOSA HALTER CLASSES

Halter Classes:

  • Filly 2 years & under

  • Mare 3 years & over

  • Gelding 2 years & under

  • Gelding 3 years & over

  • Colt 2 years & under

  • Stallion 3 years & over

  • Most Colourful Appaloosa


Plus all breed classes, Showmanship at Halter, Trail, Western Pleasure, Horsemanship, Hunter Under Saddle, Hunt Set Equitation, Costume Class


SUNDAY - ENGLISH DAY (ApHANZ POINTS ONLY)

In-Hand Classes:

  • Best Presented Horse and Handler

  • Youth Handler (various age divisions)

  • Adult Handler

  • Fashion in the Field

  • Novice Pony, Park Hack, Hack (by height division)

  • Paced and Mannered Pony, Park Hack, Hack (by height division)

  • Open Pony, Park Hack, Hack (by height division)


Ridden Classes:

  • Best Presented Horse & Rider

  • Novice Youth Rider (various age divisions)

  • Novice Adult Rider

  • Novice Pony, Park Hack, Hack (by height division)

  • Paced and Mannered Pony, Park Hack, Hack (by height division)

  • Open Pony, Park Hack, Hack (by height division)

  • Open Youth & Adult Rider on the flat


Jumping:

  • Hunter Jumping - max 50cm

  • Hunter Jumping - max 65cm


Entry Information

Entry Fees:

Halter/Youth/Beginner: $6 per class

Performance/Adult/Amateur/Rookie/Level 1: $8 per class

Ridden Hack/Park Hack/Jumping: $8 per class

Camping: $10 per night

Information for Appaloosa Competitors

Membership requirement:

  • All owners and competitors of Appaloosas must be financial members of ApHANZ Inc. to compete in ApHANZ double points classes.


Registration:

  • All horses entered in ApHANZ classes MUST be registered prior to the show.

  • Competitors must produce horse registration papers on demand.

  • Non-members may show a horse in Halter events only if the horse's owner is on the grounds.


Appaloosa Specific Rules:

  • False tails or additional colour of any kind are not allowed on any day during this show.

  • Manes may be banded on Halter and Western performance days, and plaited on English day.

  • Halter classes run under ApHANZ Inc. and AQHA-NZ breed halter rules.

  • All stallions 2 years and over must be identified with a red "S" on halter or bridle at all times.


General Show Rules

Safety & Conduct:

  • Dogs must be on a lead at all times - fines apply for loose dogs.

  • All riders must wear approved hard hats (red or yellow) in all speed and jumping events.

  • English competitors will have a gear safety check before jumping events.

  • Youth may not ride or be in control of a stallion at any time during the show.


Facilities:

  • ESNZ approved steel portable pens may be used during daytime (horses must be tied).

  • Horses tied to trucks or floats must be under supervision.

  • Floats must be attached to vehicles.

  • Camping available - specify nights required on entry form.

  • Manure and waste hay must be cleaned up before departure.
